Kit needed for Whitbread’s new hotel concept


Whitbread this morning launched a new hotel concept that will potentially spawn up to 40 catering and display merchandising equipment contracts over the next five years.

The UK’s largest hotel group revealed ‘hub by Premier Inn’ will target major UK city centres such as London and Edinburgh, with the first premises to open on St. Martin’s Lane in London next summer.

The rooms will measure just 11.4 square metres and feature fold-out desks, but they are aimed at people who value price, location and design over space.

The good news for catering equipment providers is that Whitbred has confirmed that each hub hotel will have its own deli-style restaurant.

The first five sites are scheduled to open in the next three years, but the company has set itself the target of having around 40 opened or in the pipeline by 2018.

Patrick Dempsey, managing director of Whitbread Hotels and Restaurants, said: “Premier Inn has played a leading role in shaping the budget hotel market and we believe ‘hub’ will do the same for a new generation of compact city centre hotels. ‘hub’ will work in tandem with Premier Inn, appealing to more price sensitive customers seeking quality accommodation in the heart of a city.”
