Kingspan Water & Energy will be presenting its latest generation of grease management solutions and talking about the company’s industry partnerships, designed to convert FOG into fuel, at Restaurant & Takeaway Innovation Expo 2018 on 25-26 September at London’s ExCel.
The firm has more than 60 years’ experience in food waste and grease management solutions and it is now spearheading the drive to develop ‘smart’ solutions for food waste to help the commercial kitchen owner save money, support efficient kitchen operations, and prevent local pollution.
On stand 2133, Kingspan will be showcasing its latest smart grease management solutions. These technology-based products are designed to mitigate the issues surrounding FOG disposal, including overspills and pumping. They can reduce the frequency of grease trap pump-outs and use sensors to remotely monitor grease levels, allowing for predictive maintenance practices and lowered costs.
Meanwhile, James Curran, Kingspan’s commercial director, will be talking at the show on the subject of ‘Fat, Oil, Grease as Fuel’ in Theatre 13, on Wednesday 26th at 11am. The supplier has entered into partnerships with a biofuel business and a tankering company to facilitate the timely removal of this major contributor to sewer blockages.
“Everyone is now very familiar with fatbergs which obstruct our sewers,” said Curran. “It’s estimated that 70% of them are caused by FOG and the problem is getting worse. Sewer blockages are both a public health nuisance and can cause major problems for individual food outlets. They cause horrible smells, blocked WCs, and are expensive to clean-up.
“We believe FOG should not simply be discarded but should be considered for recycling and reuse – notably as a source of energy or fuel, given its high calorific value.
“Reusing recovered FOG helps support this country’s future energy security. But it also offers an attractive payback for food outlets, in partnership with strategic biofuel manufacturers.”
