ScoMac's turnover and operating profit were hit by difficult trading conditions in 2018.

ScoMac Catering Equipment has confirmed that Kevin Bevis has joined the group in a general manager’s capacity.

Bevis will head the company’s light equipment and consumables division, which formerly traded as ScoMac Nugents but has now been named ScoMac Express.

Bevis has extensive experience of the catering equipment field. His most recent role in the industry was at buying group Cedabond, but prior to that he worked for distributor Hampshire Catering Equipment.

His job at ScoMac will be to drive the continued development of the Northern Ireland branch and manage the launch of additional light equipment branches for ScoMac Express across the whole of the UK.

Iain Munro, managing director of ScoMac, said Bevis’ knowledge and experience of the market place would be an invaluable asset to the company.

“Following a brief break from the industry to consider his options, Kevin was very keen to find a role that would give him the right challenges and make best use of his vast experience,” he said. “The directors at ScoMac are sure Kevin will be a great addition to the team, which now allows us to accelerate the planned development of ScoMac Express and gain light equipment sales more rapidly nationally.”

Having traded the business in Northern Ireland for nine months after buying family firm Nugent’s out of administration, ScoMac recognised the need for a leader to reinforce its position in its existing market but also expand the business into new territories.

The Nugent name has a long and established history in Ireland, however the ScoMac directors felt it would not have the same value in the rest of the UK and therefore sanctioned the change to ScoMac Express.

The business will offer a range of products from utensils, table top items, heavy and light appliances plus chemicals and paper-based consumables. All are available from stock, hence the word ‘Express’ in the title.

Bevis’ appointment also coincides with a couple of other managerial role changes at the company.

Nick Imlah has become Unitech Group chairman and CEO of ScoMac from joint managing director, while Iain Munro assumes full responsibility as managing director of ScoMac Catering Equipment and ScoMac Express.
