Italian combi and bakery oven manufacturer Unox has bought out Unox UK, its UK agent, for an undisclosed sum.
Husband and wife team Gary and Lisa Nunn started supplying Unox products in the UK in 2004 and have steered the company to become a major supplier.
With the acquisition, Unox Italy has expanded its global network of offices and subsidiaries: the UK will be the 37th country in which the manufacturer employs people to provide service and support to professional foodservice operators and dealers.
Unox’s CEO Nicola Michelon said: “The purpose of the Unox management team is to ensure that a customer based in any corner of the world receives the same attention and service as the one in Padua, where the company is headquartered. We strongly encourage our people to do whatever it takes to exceed customer’s expectations.
“By doing so, in the last 10 years we have quadrupled the size of the company and in the next 5 we plan to maintain the pace. The acquisition of Unox UK will allow us to provide the financial, technological and management support to ensure that our growth in the UK will exceed our growth in the rest of the world.”
Both Gary and Lisa will stay on in their respective roles but will now have 100% backing and support from Italy.
Gary commented: “The purchase of the company by Unox SpA will strengthen our position and allow us to expand with financial, technical and marketing support direct from Italy.
“It has been a fantastic journey so far and we have both enjoyed making many new friends along the way. The early days were very difficult as the brand was not known in the UK, but some of the distributors believed in both us and the product and we are eternally grateful to those who joined us on the journey.
“We must also thank our fantastic staff, past and present, without whom we would not have been able to succeed.”
Turning to the future, there are many more new products being launched in 2020. Talk is already of expansion and a newbuild UK headquarters with larger warehousing, offices, development kitchen and sales theatre, in the style of the Italian headquarters.
Gary underlined: “The company has a very focused and innovative worldwide vision and we in the UK are proud to be part of that. The UK will undoubtably play a key role in worldwide accounts as many of the large players are based here.
“Unox UK is already engaged with many of the leading companies, however the support of the head office and Unox branches in other parts of the world will no doubt cement these and future relationships even further.
“Support will also be strengthened for our many distributors who have remained loyal throughout the past 14 years. Unox SpA has a fantastic record for loyalty with many of their clients remaining with them from the start of the company in 1990 and is keen to continue this support in the UK.”
He concluded: “To be a part of the larger family of Unox is indeed a huge honour, we cannot wait to be involved with the future developments of such a great and innovative company.”
