Inka sinks teeth into outdoor BBQ sector


Inka has followed up the UK launch of its charcoal ovens with a range of barbecues aimed at the alfresco dining market.

The Spanish manufacturer claims its IK-800 barbecue can cook up to 80kg of meat or fish per hour and is targeted at chefs who are serious about providing a “substantial” grilled menu.

Franco Sotgiu, managing director for Inka UK, insists the product will help provide that extra special theatre to outdoor cooking.

“The spectacle of seeing the food cooked in front of their eyes on a professional range, by a professional chef, is sure to draw the crowds, whilst the aromas will have passers by being tempted through the doors.”

Sotgiu told Catering Insight last month that the company is currently looking to build up a dealer network in the UK.

“We are looking to introduce between six and 10 distributors in the UK,” he added. “We are not just going to give the brand to anybody — we want to work with people that can help us to take it forward, understand the message and have good contacts with restaurant groups and kitchen designers. What we don’t want is to see it on every catering equipment website on the internet.”

The new IK-800 BBQ features a stainless steel grill, supported at the rear to maintain the correct height, whilst for ease of use, the grill comes with a built-in hook system for easy removal and cleaning.

The barbecue comes with design features such as the ash box, which prevents the need to clean up ash after use, and a ‘Clean Eaze’ fat collection system will speed up the process of cleaning down the machine after cooking.
