Investigations are underway today after a major seafront hotel in Cornwall was destroyed by a fire.
More than 100 firefighters were sent to the Falmouth Beach Hotel after the blaze broke out at 12.00 yesterday afternoon.
The hotel remains a family run establishment but is owned by international chain Best Western.
The Falmouth Beach Hotel housed the Sandpipers Restaurant, which specialised in dishes produced using locally sourced food, and The Feathers Bar, which provides an informal terrace setting for guests.
The Sandpipers Restaurant was capable of seating up to 220 customers and offered everything from a season table d’hote menu to carvery selections.
Reports said that firefighters’ efforts to bring the blaze under control were hit by gale force winds, which led to the fire spreading through the building and caused the roof to collapse.
