Yesterday over 100 industry luminaries attended a special lunch in honour of retiring Meiko UK MD, Bill Downie.
At the Honourable Artillery Company headquarters in Central London, Meiko’s group CEO Stefan Scheringer praised Downie’s 23-year tenure at the warewashing specialist: “Bill is well known for his long term thinking,” he said.
“He is an investor in people and made sure he knew all of his staff well.”
Downie will step down at the beginning of April and will be replaced by current UK director of sales for Hoshizaki, Paul Anderson. Sheringer said of the incoming MD: “We at Meiko believe in Paul Anderson’s abilities.”
Anderson also attended the event and commented: “Bill is a true legend of the industry and I look forward to continuing his legacy.”
Downie himself added: “It is with a heavy heart I hand over the baton but I know Paul will serve the business well and reflect its honest and responsible ethos.”
Furthermore, the gathering provided Meiko an opportunity to give the distributor audience an exclusive preview of its new M-iClean H warewasher.
Innovations for this new model include fully automatic operation and a control panel jutting out from the side of the machine at users’ eye level to enable an easy interface.
Meiko’s CTO, Dr Thomas Peukert, detailed that the new model has been field tested in 17 sites for 6 months, and these units have proven to record minimum wear.
Reduced vapour and energy usage have been measured too.
