Celebrating its third birthday, the future looks bright for commercial kitchen design, planning and installation firm Indigo Catering Equipment.

The Hailsham-headquartered distributor was formed by owners Christian Barnes and Andy Booth, who between them have over 40 years of experience in the industry of creating kitchen services and solutions that minimise downtime for businesses and create futureproof, modern workspaces.

Specialising in restaurants, hotels and kitchens in schools and universities, the team feels it delivers a fresh approach to installation and optimises design, technical feasibility, front of house considerations and health and safety requirements. And as of 2017, it also offers a bespoke kosher kitchen service.

Doubling in size since launch, Indigo has been able to train new staff and focus on turnkey projects, project management and consultancy.

Barnes took Catering Insight back to the beginning of the company’s story: “Indigo has been trading for 3 years. We set it up, based on our own experiences with different companies, as we felt the market was changing and we wanted to change with it. It was important to us to offer a full service to clients with a focus on quality catering equipment as the basis of a good commercial kitchen.”

Barnes and Booth have always worked in the catering industry, as Barnes detailed: “We’ve both been very hands on and have installed countless kitchens over the years. We have strong relationships with providers.

“As our careers have progressed, we’ve always continued with manual work on installations, but now also take pleasure in project management and full reporting. As directors it’s about pooling our experience and resources to projects and helping others get started in their careers here at Indigo.”

The company likes to call itself a one-stop-shop, as it offers everything from a one-off sale of equipment, to full turnkey projects. Its team project manages, completes full designs, works with consultants and carries out all building works, altering services, cladding walls, floor finishes, decoration and front of house finishes. It also supplies and installs all of the kitchen equipment.

Barnes commented: “This means that business owners can come to us and us alone for their kitchen install, without the need to employ different companies and requiring them to communicate and work to each other’s deadlines.”

Specialising in schools, universities and colleges, Indigo is proud of its work in education sites. Furthermore it works with restaurants, groups and chains, hotels and residential houses that require commercial equipment and finishes.
