Imperial Catering Equipment will begin shipping the much-hyped Matchbox Oven into the UK market following its recent distribution agreement with the product’s owner, the company has confirmed.
Imperial announced earlier this week that it had signed an agreement to become the UK agent for US-based Ovention, which manufactures commercial ovens.
The Matchbox Oven was launched to much fanfare in North America last year as it is the brainchild of Phil McKee, the inventor of the original TurboChef oven.
It can bake, broil, cook, grill and roast, and includes a special impingement systems that enables caterers to control time, temperature and independent blower speeds for every food item.
The company says that with up to 1,000 pre-programmed cook settings, the oven “eliminates the need for microwaves”, while the closed cooking system it is designed around means no hood is required. Ovention claims the system performs 10 times better than the required UL grease emissions standard.
Andy Piggin, sales director for Imperial, called the product “the oven for a new era”.
He said: “The Matchbox answers caterer demand on every level and is the first Ovention product to be launched by us since we secured the UK distribution agreement for sales and after-sales support of the precision impingement line of ovens this summer.”
Piggin said the first consignment of stock would be on its way to the UK soon. “Ovention will hit the UK market this autumn. Its cooking speed, product quality and flexibility will be a big attraction to chain account users,” he added.
Ovention was recently acquired by Hatco Corporation, which Imperial Catering Equipment has an existing relationship with in the UK.
Imperial said a short training video on the Matchbox Oven can be viewed here.
