Famous comedian Katherine Ryan gave a shout out to new friends she made in the catering equipment industry during last week’s episode of her podcast “Telling Everybody Everything”, which is one of the top 100 most popular podcasts in Britain.

After attending the London premiere of “The Last Duel” film, starring Jodie Comer, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, and subsequently loading up on cocktails, Ryan detailed how she was in a merry mood as she visited a Turkish restaurant in Leicester Square (which by Catering Insight’s reckoning is called Bosporus).

There, she encountered some executives who had been attending the Commercial Kitchen exhibition that day (Thursday 23 September), and she recalled: “I met these guys from Liverpool, they were doing a trade show for commercial kitchen equipment at the ExCeL centre – stand C3 I remember.”

Stand C3 at this year’s Commercial Kitchen show belonged to Knowsley-based Hupfer, so some of the food transportation and storage solution supplier’s team must have been the ones to cross paths with the comedian.

Ryan asked them if they had an Instagram account, which they didn’t, so she subsequently exchanged phone numbers with them. She joked: “I am so friendly when I’m drinking – I am a disaster because I’ll get invited to 30 weddings when I’m drunk and I’ll wake up in the morning with 10 best friends in my phone. These are cheques I can’t cash, I can’t actually hang out with anyone, I can barely get my podcast out on time!

“So of course I wake up in the morning, I got texts from the guys from Liverpool, they were like ‘are you coming to the ExCeL centre?’. No, I don’t need any commercial kitchen solutions! I was so drunk!”

She later added: “But still, I’m glad that people are going out. People are taking precautions but they are out and it just feels so good. So if you have an event planned, just be careful, be aware that we have not been let out into the world for a very long time and if you get too excited and you overdo it, you’re going to, number one, make friends from Liverpool – that was the fun bit – but number two, you might spend the next 48 hours just feeling like garbage.”

Whoever in the Hupfer team encountered Ryan, they now have their 5 minutes of fame.

You can listen to the 29 September episode of her podcast here, with the anecdote starting from around 17 minutes in.
