Hotelympia has revealed the judges that catering equipment manufacturers may need to convince to stand a chance of winning an innovation award at this year’s show.
One item of catering equipment will be crowned the best in show for its innovative credentials when the exhibition takes place in April. Last time around the contest was won by Active Food Systems for its energy efficient Synergy Grill.
The field will be whittled down to six finalists, who will then have to give a behind-closed-doors presentation to a number of judges selected from a panel of ‘Innovation Idols’.
Hotelympia organiser Fresh Montgomery revealed this week that the individuals that have agreed to join the panel include:
– David Bentley from The Russell Partnership and a former FCSI UK chair
– Nick Sandler, creative chef for Pret A Manger
– Vanessa Brady, president of SBID
– Adam Marshall, chief executive of bar group Grand Union
– Acclaimed chef Cyrus Todiwala
– 2013 National Chef of the Year, Hayden Groves
Toby Wand, managing director of Fresh Montgomery, said: “As previous finalists can attest, the benefits of entering are far reaching. With an ever-growing line-up of respected names as Innovation Idols, we look forward to raising the industry bar yet again.”
As well as catering equipment, innovation awards will be given in the food & drink, tabletop & design, and technology categories.
The organisation noted that the confirmed ‘Innovation Idols’ are signed up as judges across all four categories at this stage. It doesn’t announce which category they will be judging until one week prior to the show.
