International trade show Host has boosted its Smart Label awards for catering equipment for this year’s exhibition.

The 2019 edition, which will take place on 18-22 October at Fieramilano, Milan, will see a third award category added, the Green Smart Label, for products with a high level of innovative content and distinctive energy saving and eco-sustainability features.

This joins the main Smart Label accolade, and the Innovation Smart Label which was first introduced for 2017’s show and recognises especially innovative catering equipment.

Held in collaboration with and sponsored by Italy’s Industrial Design Association (ADI), the scheme will once again include two types of special mention, for the application of new materials and for the introduction of digital connections between different products, encompassing the Internet of Things.

The initiative is reserved exclusively for exhibitors registered for Host 2019, and applications can be made no later than 29 April 2019 through the Smart Label webpage here.

Winning equipment is displayed in the dedicated Smart Label area within the show halls.

Previous winners include Alessi for its Pasta Pot. The accolade was received during Host 2013, with a marketing representative commenting: “Pasta Pot has helped to bring us into contact with the world of top international cuisine thanks to collaboration with two leading talents: French chef Alain Ducasse and designer Patrick Jouin. In addition, it marked the beginning of an experimentation process involving designers and world renowned chefs and pastry cooks, who came together to exchange ideas and share experiences.”

Another Smart Label victor is French brand Adventys, having won the award at two editions in a row (in 2015 and 2017) for two products, Induc’Art and Induc-NoLimit.

Export manager Mathilde Perot Bell explained the benefits the manufacturer derived from this: “Winning the Smart Label award gave us greater visibility both during and after the fair. People came to our stand to see the winning design and we started using the logo in all our catalogues and marketing literature. Getting recognised for innovation at a fair like Host has been a great advert for our brand.

“A visit to the Smart Label area at Host is a way of finding out what kitchens will be like in the future and how the food industry is developing over the years.”
