Space Group subsidiary Holmes Catering Equipment Solutions has won plaudits for a recent major project at nearby York Racecourse.
Earlier this year Ian Bidmead, MD of the Space Group, told Catering Insight that the £400,000 project was one of the biggest outfits the group’s distribution divisions have taken on.
Design work was actually underway just before the original Holmes Catering Equipment was rescued from administration by Space at the end of last year. Following the launch of the new business, Holmes resumed discussions with the Racecourse, developed the designs and submitted a bid. After negotiations, Holmes was awarded the contract earlier this year.
The workscope involved designing, manufacturing and installing many metres of bars and other facilities in the racecourse’s new Northern End Development that includes the John Carr Stand, which is one of the original Racecourse grandstands and dates from 1754.
William Derby, chief executive of York Racecourse, wrote to the Space Group and Holmes to compliment Holmes’ work. He said: “The general reaction to the new facilities has been overwhelmingly positive, both in their visual impact and in the operational performance. The John Carr Stand and overarching canopy has been a revelation.
“We are tremendously grateful to you and your team for your contribution and endeavours on this landmark project.”
