Hobart Warewash marketing manager, Chris Birch, is to race across two countries in just 3 days as part of the Springboard Charity’s Team Velo London to Paris Cycle Challenge.
With little over a month to go before the grand depart, the Hobart man – part of a team of four riders – is training hard for the gruelling 240-mile challenge with a target of raising £500 for the charity, which supports young, unemployed and disadvantaged people in the hospitality industry.
Birch said: “Having worked in the hospitality industry for the past 27 years, at both operational and supply level, I know that it can be a tough game. In that time I have seen first-hand just some of the important work Springboard does for those facing barriers into our industry, making this personal challenge and the rigorous preparation involved in conquering the route, that much more worthwhile.”
This will be the second Springboard cycling challenge undertaken by Birch, having previously raced from Hobart’s Paris offices to its Peterborough HQ in 2011.Those looking to help him across the line in 2015 can go to his JustGiving page to donate: http://bit.ly/1P0zWfF
Taking place between 17-19 September, Springboard’s Team Velo Challenge will see 25 teams of all abilities race from the capital to the Eiffel Tower. Each team will be able to choose their own route from one checkpoint to the next and will be monitored on a tracking device so that support vehicles can provide them with energy boosts and additional provisions.
