Standex Food Service Equipment recently welcomed Tesco Counters’ Manager, Adam Smith, and Counters’ Buying Manager, Nicola Jamieson, to its development kitchen facility in Theale.
The visit was a part of the retailer’s annual assessment of the way in which it displays its hot deli offer, which includes chicken, sausages, ribs and potatoes.
The programme is designed to meet Tesco’s “what good looks like” objectives for optimum merchandising and product visibility to promote impulse purchases.
The team’s findings are documented and photographed to produce an operational and merchandising manual, which is then circulated to all stores, for consistent presentation of product across the Tesco estate.
This is a “full on” two day project and interruption to trading means that it is impractical to complete the exercise in store, so Standex FSE’s kitchen and showroom facilities provide an ideal environment for the trials. Standex FSE’s Development Chef, Darren Massey, cooked a wide variety of Tesco products which were then displayed in BKI heated serve over counters and BKI heated grab & go upright cases to replicate a Tesco store environment.
Nicola Jamieson stated: “The Standex facility is an invaluable resource for our merchandising trials. We are grateful for the cooperation we received, not least Darren’s hard work in preparing and cooking the product.”
Standex FSE’s Managing Director, Steve Loughton, added: “We value our Tesco partnership very highly and our dedicated kitchen and showroom facility provides an excellent environment for merchandising exercises, test cooking, product training and menu development. We also work closely with many distributors who bring their customers along, enabling them to gain added value from investment in our extensive range of products.”
