H Fereday & Sons — the manufacturer behind the Caterlux and Weylux brands — is set to complete a remarkable 150 years in business this year.
Established in London in 1862 to enamel and gold decorate grocery scales and sheet metal goods, the business eventually moved into manufacturing and made its bow in the catering equipment industry when it began reconditioning surplus kitchen appliances from the Second World War.
David Fereday — great grandson of founder Henry Fereday — told Catering Insight he had seen some monumental changes during his 57 years working for the family company.
He started out as a humble sales apprentice before eventually spearheading the launch of the company’s factory in Harlow when the level of automation wasn’t what it is now.
“Unlike yesteryear when a delivery time of four weeks’ or more was the norm, production is so slick today that orders received AM can be installed in a customer’s kitchen PM the next day.”
The Caterlux range includes everything from small plate warmers to 1800mm long units fitted with a variety of heating gantries.
All products are sold through a nationwide network of distributors.
