GS Group teams up with Charvet to help local pub rise from the ashes

GS Group has helped a traditional Devon pub and restaurant, The Thatched Tavern, to reopen after a blaze.

The Torquay-based eatery was closed in September of last year after a kitchen fire damaged much of the ground floor.

But now after extensive repair work undertaken by GS Group, the pub is back in business.

As part of the renovation, the distributor specified a Charvet wall suite with a wall-mounted rise and fall salamander over.

The range comprised four gas burners with GN2/1 gas oven under, six gas burners with large gas oven (855x555mm) under, a gas powered smooth steel plate plancha, a gas twin pan fryer, and a refrigerated base which has been fitted with an Adande drawer unit.

Torquay-based Fruition Design managed the front of house refresh.

The Thatched Tavern’s head chef Liam Murray said: “Fruition managed the whole project from the ground up and did a fantastic job. They chose GS Group to handle the kitchen design and equipment specification and together we sat down to look at the options.”

He said of the equipment choice: “I am a big fan of Charvet. Having worked in London hotels and restaurants for several years, I knew from experience that Charvet is built like a tank, nothing ever went wrong. It is reliable, efficient and consistent in terms of heat output.

“From my point of view the key points are consistency in performance and quality of workmanship. If you look after it, it will last forever.

“What surprised me is how price-competitive the Charvet equipment proved to be. It really is excellent value for money and I love it.”

Murray praised the distributor, saying: “I must also say that it was great to work with GS Catering Equipment and director Karl Jones. There have been no issues to deal with during the design and installation; GS delivered exactly what they said and have not put a foot wrong.”
