Basildon-based distributor Grey Simmonds has introduced an immersive aspect to its design capabilities.

CAD manager Oliver Hardwicke explained: “It’s hard to ignore the exciting trend of virtual reality (VR) flooding the market over the past couple of years.

“After spending some time with these products, I started to think about the uses within the kitchen and bar design industry.

“At Grey Simmonds, we already had our 3D software setup and were producing brilliant renders so to me the next step was to be able to fully immerse the client within their potential kitchen or bar so they can really get a feel for the design.”

The new 360° walkthroughs can be viewed on devices such as tablets, laptops, mobile and VR headsets.

Hardwicke commented: “It means the customer can view wherever they are instantly through the web where our VR files are stored, on almost any device. This gives complete ease of use with maximum wow factor.

“This also helps with confusions over plans and designs. Not everyone can understand a 2D plan with lots of flat lines but when you have control to look around the design as if you were inside the room, you can see exactly what you are getting and it allows instant feedback between client and designer.”
