Middleby’s Q90 range is powering the catering operations of a leading Leicestershire garden retailer after being specified for a project led by Gratte Brothers.

The 900mm modular range went into the Palmers Garden Centre in Enderby as part of a major kitchen refurbishment and expansion scheme earlier this year.

It required equipment that would help it achieve high output, and which could be installed quickly and easily.

It also wanted a single suite of equipment that was easy to clean and maintain, and that could be moved easily should the layout change in future.

Gratte Brothers was asked to propose a design for the new facilities and carried out a site survey which led to it recommending items from the Q90 range, including an undercounter oven, ceramic plates, induction plates, a bain marie, a salamander grill and two 22-litre fryers.

All of the Q90 range is manufactured at Lincat’s factory in Lincoln, which provided a major benefit for Gratte Brothers.

Paul Gilhooly, head of sales at Gratte, explains: “In order not to miss a key period for trade, Palmers needed guaranteed availability. As Q90 is made in Lincolnshire, only 90 minutes away, we could cater to their demands — where other manufacturers couldn’t commit.

“We were also up against another proposal that involved a suite with a single top. While this is easy to clean, it’s very restrictive, making servicing and maintenance tricky. Q90 makes it easy to expand or change your kitchen layout if needed, providing greater flexibility.”

The project also saw Palmers switch from using only gas items to all electric. The introduction of induction hobs, in particular, has supported its 25% increase in output.
