Gratte Brothers’ collaborative approach proves a winning formula in times of crisis

If the pandemic has reaffirmed one thing for Gratte Brothers Catering Equipment it’s that collaborative working and excellence of execution are just as vital during times of adversity as they are when conditions are much smoother.

The company has been reflecting on the strengths that have made it a mainstay of the UK dealer market after recently landing the Distributor of the Year – South award during Kitchen & Equipment Awards Week.

The category was sponsored by Hobart and this week David Riley, managing director of Hobart Equipment Division, made a virtual trophy presentation to Gratte Brothers sales director Paul Gilhooly.

Gratte Brothers remained fully operational throughout the pandemic and worked tirelessly to exceed the expectations of its customers during some extremely challenging times, providing equipment solutions where it was most needed and using its extensive service capabilities to repair vital equipment at short notice.

A shining example of this came at the very start of lockdown when a local authority in London that was supplying 1,000 meals a day for vulnerable residents reported a broken walk-in freezer.

After identifying what was needed to fix the problem and establishing that the part required was only available in Cannock, a 250-mile round trip was undertaken to collect the part and get the freezer working again in a matter of hours.

Gratte Brothers also successfully completed a seven-figure investment to fully refurbish and improve its office and warehouse facility in Stevenage last year.

During the awards presentation, which you can view above, Gilhooly reiterated the importance of teamwork to the company’s ethos, echoing the sentiments of managing director Colin Barden.

Commenting after the award was first announced, Barden said: “Gratte Brothers Catering continually strives to put the customer first, embraces collaborative working and looks to support its team and the wider industry through a positive and inclusive approach, embracing diversity whilst delivering excellence of execution, very much building on the proud history and heritage of Gratte Brothers whilst having a clear, forward-looking focus.”

He added: “Recognition from industry executives is, we believe, a very positive endorsement of Gratte Brothers Catering Equipment’s approach to delivering quality and cost-effective commercial catering services to our customers whilst working collaboratively with all our valued supply partners and wider industry stakeholders, who we very much see as an integral part of our extended ‘Gratte Family’.”
