Garners steams into theme park fit-out

Garners FSE has finished a project to design and install new catering facilities at the Thomas the Tank Engine-themed area at Drayton Manor theme park in Tamworth.

The £3.5m renovation of Europe’s only Thomas Land was part of the park’s 65th anniversary celebrations. The area expanded by over 40% on the original, which opened in 2008.

Garners FSE was involved at the earliest stages of the project to design the commercial catering facilities at the main attraction, Sodor Airport. General catering manager for Drayton Manor, Marc Tierney said: “Despite the initial brief being fairly vague, the original architects’ drawings changing on a few occasions and the brief then developing throughout the project, Garners FSE was 100% accurate in both interpreting our own ideas and offering us viable solutions.

“Being a family business, Drayton Manor Park had ideas coming from all areas and Garners FSE managed to overcome obstacles such as structural changes mid-project.”

Tierney praised Garners MD Tim Fisher’s “ability to think on the spot” and to do this with a “can do attitude.” The result of this is a catering facility with the look and feel of a high-end coffee bar, complete with durable granite topped servery counters and a ‘mirrored’ twin flow servery style.

Customers are filtered from the central grab and go counter to two barista coffee units, via interchangeable hot or cold display cabinets, dependent on the season. This should mean queuing and service times are kept to the minimum.

All food can now be prepared and supported by the facility’s back of house pantry and dedicated dishwash facility. Manufactured in Britain are the Heritage induction hobs; two MerryChef combi/convection microwaves and Rational ovens are the main food production units.

Garners arranged all the training for the staff, including for the two specialist Barista units and pre-installation cooking trials.

Tierney added: “From our CEO to the paying public, the feedback has been exceptional and we have been blown away by the response. It would have been easy to justify not spending the additional money on the quality equipment and finishes but we are glad that we did!

“Furthermore, our facility has created a brand new revenue stream and has complimented the existing catering facilities we also designed and installed across both Thomas Land and the theme park in general. We will not hesitate in approaching Garners FSE for our future plans or recommend them to anyone else.”
