Supplier, Fri-Jado UK, has provided three Hounö combi ovens for the food to go department at a new 31,000ft2 Tesco superstore recently opened in Calne, Wiltshire.
The models comprised a six grid combi stacked with a six grid convection oven and a six grid combi stacked with a rotisserie.
The food to go department is located at the front of the store to provide an enhanced and more convenient shopping experience for customers. The ovens are positioned front of house to create kitchen theatre and promote impulse purchases.
The Hounö ovens feature a combination of radiant heat and steam injection, together with a nine speed reversible fan. The digital controller with a selection dial interface is said to be user friendly. The ovens installed at the Calne store were pre-programmed for items on the food to go department’s menu.
The ovens supplied incorporate Hounö’s passthrough feature, whereby raw food is loaded from the rear of the oven and cooked food is unloaded from the front, designed to minimise the risk of product cross contamination.
They are also equipped with an integrated fat separation system, which should divert grease into a tray mounted beneath the oven. The tray is then emptied into a suitable container for environmentally responsible disposal of the fat.
Hounö’s business development manager, Vincent van Delft, reported that the company has enjoyed success across all areas of the food retailing sector and has been supplying combi ovens to Tesco for over 20 years. He added that over 5,000 Hounö passthrough ovens have been installed in the UK alone.
In addition to the three Hounö combi ovens installed at the Calne store, Fri-Jado UK also supplied an eight spit programmable rotisserie oven, a 1.2metre hot self-service counter and a matching 1.2metre hot serve over counter.
