Fresh challenge for former Upnorth sales chief

Industry veteran Tom Cummings has taken up a new post at Euro Catering Equipment after leaving Upnorth Group less than a year into his post.

Cummings joined Upnorth as field sales executive at the end of 2011 with a brief to help the distributor reel in bigger contracts from across the country and develop ties with the FCSI community.

The assignment didn’t work out the way both parties hoped, however, and now Cummings has joined up with Euro Catering to take on a dual sales role.

He explained: “My main objectives are to build the consultant business through specification and to work very closely with chefs, and the chefs’ associations, to make them aware of the great range of state-of-the-art equipment that we import and supply.”

Euro Catering Equipment has been operating in the market for more than 15 years. It supplies high-end cooking equipment from more than a dozen brands, including Anets, American Range, Giroik and Palux.

The company operates a showroom and training kitchen at its offices in Leicestershire.

Cummings said the quality of equipment that Euro Catering imports and the fact he has known owner and MD Tim Charlton for a number of years were key factors in him joining the company. “The role also means I am finally back [involved] with manufacturers, which is my favoured path,” he said.
