Warewashing equipment manufacturer Hobart’s quest to uncover the ‘unsung heroes’ of commercial kitchens in the UK has produced its first winner.
The company announced this week that Nick Wood, group chef at contract caterer BaxterStorey, has become the first person to pick up a prize since the campaign was launched earlier this year.
Hobart will now give Wood a new Premax standard AUP pass-through dishwasher for his kitchen at the caterer’s Deutsche Bank site.
Wood was nominated by the BaxterStorey’s regional executive chef, Hayden Groves, for his work at the company’s Chef Academy. Alongside his demanding day job, Wood is a dedicated training ambassador at the academy, taking the time to engage and mentor young chefs.
Tim Bender, Hobart’s UK sales director for warewashing, said: “This is what the Unsung Hero campaign is all about — celebrating the heroes behind the pass, while underlining the integral part warewashers have to play in keeping the kitchen ticking.”
Hobart says it will give away more warewashing equipment in 2013. The next phase of the Unsung Hero campaign will see the company offering a brand new under-counter warewasher as a prize.
