Concluding a summer of fundraising challenges organised by the First Choice Group community team, 10 of the company’s employees will be attempting a 24-mile trek to the top of the three highest peaks in the Yorkshire Dales.
Taking place on 11 September 2021, the challenge, in aid of the BBC’s Children in Need Appeal, will see the team attempt the demanding route, which includes 5,200ft of ascent, aiming to finish the course within 10 hours. Forming part of the Pennine range, the circular route will see the group scale the summits of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.
The team comprises First Choice MD, John Whitehouse; head of manufacturer partnerships, Steven McLaren; head of sales, Neil Vincent; head of marketing, Julian Fisher and dedicated individuals from the customer service, IT and accounts teams.
The group has set a goal of raising a total of £2,000 for Children in Need, a charity set up with a mission to help ensure every child in the UK is safe, happy, secure and has the opportunities they need to reach their potential.
Whitehouse detailed: “We are starting with the smallest mountain, Pen-y-Ghent, before tackling the highest peaks of Whernside and Ingleborough. We hope to complete the entire 24 miles and 1,585-metre ascent on the route in just 12 hours, but it’s certainly not for the faint-hearted. As added incentive and motivation for our team, we are raising money for Children in Need, where our target of £2,000 will go towards supporting the incredible work the charity does for children across the UK.
“For First Choice, this challenge brings a fantastic summer of fundraising to an end. What started with a week of fun-filled activities for Red Nose Day and Comic Relief, also saw a team of 15 people clock up almost 450 miles in a week, in aid of Hospitality Action’s 30,000 miles to Hell and Back campaign. These fantastic initiatives and fundraising ideas are credit to our wonderful community team, and the hard-work and determination of all those taking part.”
