First Choice Group’s Clare Romeo scaled the heights for charity on Saturday as she took on the Bikinis and Boxers Challenge to help raise more than £6,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The customer service manager stripped down to her undies and braved freezing winds to hike up Moel Famau in North Wales.
“People have been so generous with their donations, we could not have done it without the support we got from everyone,” she said.
“It was bitterly cold with a freezing wind but we just kept saying to ourselves, what’s getting through 45 minutes or so of discomfort when you consider how others (cancer sufferers and their families) are really suffering. That was all the motivation we needed.”
The annual fundraiser, established by her friend, Alex Egan, saw Romeo collect £360 in donations, easily surpassing her target of £250.
“The hills opposite us had snow on,” added Romeo.
“Moel Famau did too on Friday but luckily it had gone by lunchtime on Saturday and was actually fairly sunny in parts. The coldest part was actually posing for the reporters and photographers, standing on a wall as the cold wind wrapped around us.”
Romeo noted how the walk was enjoyable but other walkers initially “thought we were bonkers”.
She concluded: “We actually felt the cold more when we were getting dressed, I don’t think anyone realised how cold it had been but some hot soup soon warmed us up.”
