First Choice Group’s Cannock headquarters has become an official Brita filter cartridge recycling centre.
This allows operators, engineers, or couriers to drop off used Brita filters at the centre, where First Choice will store the units before they are collected and recycled.
Filters have a recommended lifespan of 12-months from installation, even in periods of no use, such as during the recent lockdowns. Therefore Brita has made a series of commitments to sustainability and the environment, including diverting 100% of its operational waste from landfill.
To do this, Brita is working with its partners, including First Choice, to align the entire supply chain to encourage used filters to be returned. Once collected, a bespoke process turns them into materials such as resin to be used in new filters, or plastic used to make garden furniture.
Steve Buckmaster, director of sales at Brita Professional commented: “We are delighted that First Choice Group is supporting our pledge to reduce, reuse and recycle as much of what we produce as possible. From basic changes, including looking to minimise the amount of packaging we use, to longer-term strategies such as sharing best practices to deliver green messages through our supply chain, Brita has the environment at its very heart.
“As many operators begin the process of reopening after the third national lockdown, it is crucial warranty obligation that any Brita water filters that have been installed more than 12 months ago are replaced. Rather than sending these used filters to landfill, we are urging operators and engineers to send them to First Choice Group, where they will be collected and suitably recycled at our dedicated Brita recycling centre.”
John Whitehouse, MD at First Choice Group added: “We have worked closely with Steve and the Brita Professional team to ensure we are doing our bit, not only to support the industry, but also protect the environment too. Located centrally and at the heart of catering equipment service, we feel we are perfectly placed to support Brita to reach their sustainability targets.
“We have briefed our customer experience team, so now, when a customer or engineer purchases a Brita water filter from us, we are reminding them that they are able to recycle their old cartridges quickly and efficiently on site. In addition, we are also putting a range of signage around our warehouse and offices, ensuring all customers are aware of the launch of the Brita filter recycling centre at our First Choice Group HQ.”
