It might not be the most glamorous product on the market, but equipment distributor FEM insists the Antibacterial Camguard Versa trays it has just rolled out have a major role to play in the food hygiene space.

Primarily aimed at dealers serving the healthcare sector — but also applicable to other areas of the catering industry — the trays contain Microban, an antibacterial silver compound that inhibits growth of bacteria between cleaning.

Because it is integrated in the fabric of the tray at the point of manufacture, Microban will not wash off or wear away, even when scraped, eliminating the need for tray mats.

Although not recommended for use in hot cupboards, they are made of a high performance polyester blend that can withstand temperatures from -40°C to +140°C.

There Camguard Versa Trays come in three sizes from 33cm x 43cm to 53cm x 37cm.

FEM says trays are an integral part of self-service meals in schools, universities and hospital canteens but are often regarded as the “ugly sister” to countering, tabling and seating.

However, it insists trays have an essential part to play in the overall hygiene of any foodservice operation.
