Catering Insight caught up with Holmes Catering Equipment Solutions’ MD, Steven Whittaker, and key account director, Claire Moss, to see how the York-based fabricator is progressing after what effectively became two buyouts in the space of 18 months.

What is the current structure of the company?

SW: We are a squad of about 40 people now. We have just employed some more artisans in the joinery shop and in metal production, and in the CAD department.

Our production manager, Matt Taylor, looks after all of those elements. Steve Whittle is our senior project manager, who looks after all of the sites.

Then we have Claire, who manages the main key accounts within the Holmes business. And Ian Free is in charge of the commercial operation.

We then have our colleagues in Space, although we have been wholly owned by Nisbets in effect since April. Now we are part of a £250m business, which makes us quite a decent-sized operation.

CM: I don’t believe there is now a similar company to us in the UK. With Nisbets involvement I think we are probably unique in that sense. So we offer the complete package, everything from fabricating a teaspoon to a full kitchen installation.
