Fatboys Catering Equipment business development manager Richard Andrews has created a blog to document his fight against throat cancer, after he was re-diagnosed with the disease.
Tragically this means he will have to have surgery to remove his voice box within the next 10 days, but writing on LinkedIn, he was determined to battle on, saying: “I have noticed that people are hesitant to talk and share their experiences, so I have set up a blog which will hopefully break down the stigma and people will see that it’s not a death sentence but something to fight.”
Andrews will be updating the blog weekly to document his journey, and requested that readers share his posts to spread the message.
His first post describes his initial diagnosis, in July last year, and how he jokingly named the cancer “Dave”. After enduring 2 months of radiotherapy starting from the end of September, his health started to improve in December, and he even joined a gym in January 2019.
Incredibly, in April he competed in the Hereford Duathlon along with his son, Josh, and then completed the Hereford 10km run in May too.
However, Andrews’ condition started to worsen mid-May and following a biopsy at the beginning of this month, it was confirmed that sadly the cancer had returned.
Nevertheless, he stated: “Cancer will not beat me and I will not be defined by it.”
