Paul Anderson will replace Bill Downie as the MD of Meiko UK, Catering Insight can reveal.
The industry has been waiting to find out who would fill Downie’s shoes since news of his planned April 2017 retirement broke last year.
He is one of the longest serving MDs in the catering equipment sector, having run the firm for 29 years. In that time the business has gone from a turnover of around £700,000 and 16 staff in its first year to £17m and 90 people in 2016.
It is understood that Anderson met with bosses from Meiko’s headquarters in Germany, who were impressed by his commercial track record in the UK market and vast industry experience.
Anderson is no stranger to the warewashing company. He worked at Meiko in a regional sales capacity for a couple of years back in the early 2000s. After that he moved to combi oven giant Rational, where he spent 7years before joining refrigeration manufacturer Gram.
At Gram he helped the company increase its market share and forge a reputation as an energy efficient product manufacturer. He was recently made UK director of sales for Hoshizaki following the integration of the Gram business with its parent company.
Meiko UK is expected to make an official announcement about the appointment in due course.
