Chester-based distributor C&C Catering Equipment has posted another record financial year for the 12 months to 30 April 2019.
The overall group’s results, including subsidiary companies C&C Catering Engineers and C&C Catering Fabrications, show that turnover has increased by 24%, to £21.9m from £17.7m, the latter itself a 40% rise from the year prior.
The company’s annual report, publicly available from Companies House, also revealed that an increased element of that amount was generated by the subsidiaries, a total of £4.1m, up 20% from 2018’s £3.5m.
Operating profit also rose 4%, from just under £1.3m last year to topping that amount in the most recent period.
C&C’s report stated: “Given the fact that the group operates in a highly competitive industry, we are delighted with these results. We have set our budget for the coming financial year and consider that the group is well placed to advance its financial performance in 2019/20.
“The group faces lower risks and uncertainties to those associated with other companies operating in the catering equipment installation industry due to the credit insurance it holds with QBE, the membership of CEDA and down to the expertise and dedication of all its staff.”
MD Peter Kitchin told Catering Insight: “I am delighted with the level of turnover we reached as a group and also with the turnover of the individual companies in their own rights. It seems fitting that in the year our founder, my father John Kitchin, passed away, we have accomplished our best turnover in 38 years of trading. He would be extremely proud of this.
“To compare our achievement, I note that 10 years ago our turnover was around £8m with a pre-tax profit approximately 30% of what we made this year. We had 20 staff then, with probably two project managers. We now have 65 staff in the group with 7 project managers. We know what we have to do to keep delivering great schemes; employ great people.”
Kitchin added: “On a side note, both our subsidiaries had record turnover, but unfortunately the level of profit from our engineering company is disappointing. Had they achieved what was expected, then we would have had a year of record profits as well as record turnover.
“That being said, we are well placed in our industry. C&C Catering Equipment is extremely proud to have worked at some of the most prestigious sites in the UK, with amazing consultants, clients and main contractors.
“We always strive to be considered one of the best in our field. That was the ethos of the late John Kitchin and that will never cease.”
