Ian Clay, a former design manager at Waltons Catering Equipment, has established his own design firm after the demise of the distributor earlier this year.
The new Hunsworth Food Service Design is aimed at assisting dealers without in-house design facilities or those needing additional support. Clay will also work with consultants, owner/operators, and other interested organisations.
He commented: “I decided that I would work for myself, as I realised that once the industry came to life, distributors and clients attitudes or behaviours would change.
“Distributors wouldn’t be receiving as many enquiries in a given month (requiring permanent staff), and clients may want to source more equipment themselves through varied outlets. I decided if I could offer my service to as many people as I could, I would be able to generate enough work to sustain me and facilitate the regeneration of the industry.”
Clay has more than 25 years’ experience in the industry, having started at Victor Manufacturing, providing servery design, quotation and warranty support.
His career has taken him to distributors including Lockhart Design Services, Airedale Group, Catering Design Group and then latterly Waltons.
Clay feels he is fully conversant with the whole design process from consultation to project delivery, including CAD, quotation and equipment specification.
Hunsworth can offer additional services such as project feasibility studies, bid management, inspection and approval, and on-site equipment training.
