Ex-Carford man takes on CESA technical role

Former Carford director Nick Oryino is to support Bryan Whittaker, CESA technical consultant, in some of the association’s key technical and standards committees work relating to commercial catering equipment.

Oryino’s technical consultant role means he will be taking over some of the work on gas, electrical and machinery standards committees.

Whittaker will be focusing on representing CESA at European policy level, in particular relating to issues surrounding 20+ directives and a range of policy working groups.

CESA stated that this move is in recognition of the increasing workloads and in anticipation of further developments over the coming years. “The European Policy framework of activity, especially in relation to the eco design and sustainability aspects, will be increasing as further product categories are brought into scope,” the association wrote on its website.

Oryino said: “I look forward to undertaking this all important standards work and to supporting the industry and CESA members. This is a rapidly evolving area of activity with a number of exciting developments due to be coming into effect soon.”

Over the course of his career Oryino has acquired a range of specialist knowledge. Starting as an electrical engineer, he went on to become MD of the Carford Group, and is unique in having been the chair of CEDA as well as CESA. He is also a member of the CESA council.

After the Carford Group’s sale to laundry equipment giant JLA towards the end of 2013, Oryino was retained as a consultant by JLA for an initial 2 year period, which is now approaching its end.
