Ex-Blue Seal chief makes industry comeback

Blue Seal’s former long-serving general manager Martin Allen has returned to the UK catering equipment scene with First Choice Catering Spares.

Allen, who spent 26 years with the prime cooking equipment manufacturer, has joined up with the Cannock-based spare parts as a specialist project manager.

After leaving Blue Seal in 2011, Allen went onto work for Chefquip and had a brief spell with Ambach before moving outside of the industry for a period.

First Choice has hired him to spearhead a new department responsible for the development of future opportunities.

“I’m so glad to see Martin back in the industry,” said First Choice’s managing director John Whitehouse. “The experience that he brings to the team is invaluable and we’re very excited for his work on future development opportunities.”

Whitehouse added that he anticipates the department that Allen will run to be a key asset to the company as it looks to extend its reach even further.

“It was important for us to engage with someone of Martin’s calibre in response to the rapid growth of the company over recent years — these are exciting times for us and as the company continues to grow so will the workforce,” said Whitehouse. “We look forward to continually providing the industry with an unrivalled service.”

One of the fastest growing areas of First Choice’s business is parts after it launched a specialist division focusing on parts for cold equipment last year.

This week it revealed it has just published the third edition of itsOEM and universal spare parts catalogue for commercial refrigeration equipment.

The 800-page catalogue contains details and photographs of more than 3,800 parts from 43 different brands, as well as a wide selection of universal van stock items, tools and consumables needed by RAC engineers.
