Equipment retailer’s ‘try before you buy’ offer


Could it be a concept that finds its way across the Atlantic and into the UK catering equipment market?

A US online retailer of restaurant and foodservice equipment is allowing commercial customers to test out products for up to 14 days before returning them for free if they are unimpressed with what they’ve ordered.

Prima Supply, which is based in Louisville, Kentucky, has launched what it is calling a ‘Try Before You Buy’ programme, which it will pilot throughout July.

Equipment from a number of brands will be on offer during the trial period, including Bunn, Vitamix, Manitowoc, Ice O Matic and Scotsman.

Prima Supply insists the initiative is the “first of its kind” as it has not been tested on large B2B purchases in the foodservice industry before.

Participants may try out the equipment for 14 days from the date of shipment before purchasing the equipment.

At any point during the 14-day trial period the customer may cancel the order and have the equipment picked up from their location at no cost.

Purchasers simply need to provide a credit card number to participate in the scheme, but their card will only be charged if they keep the equipment after the 14-day period.
