ENSE members triumph at Manchester meet

Catering equipment buying consortium ENSE last night marked the achievements of its suppliers and distributors at a special gala dinner and awards function in Manchester.

The event, which capped a day of meetings between members at the group’s latest half-yearly conference, saw ENSE’s Bob Adams and Robin McKnight take to the stage to honour the companies that have delivered an exceptional performance over the past 12 months.

On the distributor side, Tailormade Catering Equipment landed the ‘Newcomer of the Year award’, with McKnight paying tribute to the speed with which the Portishead-based company got to grips with the group since joining last year.

“In less than a year, they supported 19 suppliers, participated in the ENSE brochure and attended ENSE sponsored training,” he said. “They showed from the very beginning they were committed to making ENSE work for them.”

The equivalent award on the supplier side, which was also only applicable to brands that joined the group in 2014, went to Rational. Since joining ENSE it has sold to 86% of members and increased its core business by over 50%.

Adams said: “Rational came into ENSE with a storm, getting into a conference about two weeks after signing. While they enjoyed a nice boost as dealers switched business their way, they created an impressive track record by being one of very few suppliers that were able to keep up with the demand of the summer school programme.”

On the light equipment side, meanwhile, First Choice Catering Spares took the plaudits, as it received the most votes from distributors. Sales through ENSE grew 250% and it traded with 90% of members. The success that First Choice has seen reaffirms its faith in the ENSE concept given it was the very first supplier to join the organisation.

The capital equipment award, which was also voted for by distributors, went to Meiko, which grew its ENSE by over 55% during 2014. It participated in the group’s 2014 brochure and product training initiatives, as well as arranged its own dealer training session covering a trip to their factory.

Meanwhile, Fulcrum Commercial Kitchens picked up the ‘Directors Award’ after growing their business with ENSE suppliers by some 400% during 2014. Managing director David Burnett collected the award.

Robin McKnight said: “They participated in our 2014 brochure and our trainings as well as supporting over 65% of the suppliers. Fulcrum was one of the first distributors to approach ENSE with ideas of how all the distributors could support more suppliers.”

Finally, the Distributor of the Year Award, which is voted for by suppliers on the basis of the member’s commitment to suppliers and recognises overall programme support and turnover, went to Court Catering Equipment. “Court grew their business with ENSE suppliers over 250% during 2014 and participated in our trainings as well as supporting over 70% of the suppliers,” revealed McKnight.

The ENSE members’ conference at the Midland Hotel in Manchester continues today.
