Electricals retailer moves into catering equipment

The commercial arm of East Anglian electricals retailer Hughes has signalled its intent to carve out sales in the catering equipment space by becoming a Hobart dealership.

Trade Electricals Direct (TED), which only handles trade business, has been named as an accredited dealer by Hobart.

It will supply a full range of professional dishwashers and glasswashers under the Ecomax, Bar Aid and Hobart brands.

Paul Chisnall, general manager at TED, told Suffolk newspaper EADT that the agreement was an important step for the company. “We are delighted to have become an accredited dealer for Hobart, one of the best known names in the commercial catering business, as it further underlines our standing in this new market for us,” he said.

Chisnall said that TED entered the catering market at the start of the year when it became a professional sales and service partner for Miele, supplying its range of commercial laundry equipment.

“The Hobart product range complements this as our main customers will largely be the same type of businesses: care and nursing homes, boarding schools, pubs, restaurants and hotels,” he told the paper.

TED has branches throughout East Anglia, Essex and Cambridgeshire, including Peterborough, where Hobart’s UK operation is based. It has traditionally been a supplier of TVs, audio equipment and household appliances.
