Ed’s view: It’s decision time for the Catering Insight Awards

I can hardly believe it’s that time of year again – time for the Catering Insight Awards! It must be a function of getting older that each 12 months flashes by quicker than the last, but it really doesn’t seem like 5 minutes since we celebrated the victors of the 2017 event.

But the 2018 ceremony is indeed almost upon us – though for that to happen, you, the industry, must once again choose the winners. Senior members of the UK catering equipment fraternity have been invited to vote – with distributors choosing the winners of the supplier categories and vice versa.

Only a minimal number of executives from each company got the link to the voting form landing in their inboxes. Each year we have set the process up in this manner, as we believe it’s the fairest way: we obtain as wide a representative range of opinions as possible without any one company trying to skew the results in a particular direction.

If you feel that you have been missed off the voting list, please do drop a line to clare.nicholls@itppromedia.com and I will double check for you – we do however clean the data every year to ensure it is up to date. Those lucky enough to receive an invite will have to hurry to make their decisions though, as voting closes on Friday 16 November.

Each form will contain a short resume of each shortlisted company and the reasons why they made the cut. You can discover who the nominees are in this very issue, starting on page 16. You will need to judge each entry on its merits, factoring in innovation, service and business development. And I can tell you that trying to cut the flood of nominees down to the final 70 is no mean feat for the Catering Insight team. We deliberated long and hard over the choices, and it was really down to the compelling reasons given by the eventual shortlist that ensured their places.

We are all very passionate about this event and it is truly our baby, as we do not have a separate events department – everything from the venue choice to the table plan is organised and managed by us, as we feel we are very familiar with what you, the industry, want and need from a ceremony of this magnitude – including a lively After-Party venue to let your hair down after the formal celebrations!

This year that is Sway Bar, which is just a few minutes’ walk from the main venue, the glitzy Bloomsbury Ballroom in central London. We are also welcoming back Robert Fox, the magician who entertained so many of you at the first awards ceremony back in 2015. He will be amazing attendees at both the drinks reception and at the start of the luxurious three course banquet.

So make sure that Thursday 29 November is in your diary, and we hope to see you for the catering equipment industry party of the year!
