Well, as the English Premier League’s transfer window closed, it can be argued that the catering equipment sector went through its own transfer season.

Many in the industry were surprised by Nisbets’ latest buy-out announcements, for instance, as the equipment supply giant added wholesaler, Bradshaw (most well-known for supplying the Menumaster brand of microwaves), and linen manufacturer, Mitre Linen, to its group of companies.

These mark the second and third major deals for Nisbets in 2016, following its acquisition of distributor, the Space Catering group, earlier this year.

Space itself had rescued manufacturer, Holmes Catering Equipment Solutions, from administration just 18 months earlier (see page 26 of our September 2016 issue for an exclusive update on how Holmes is progressing).

After these latest deals, many may feel that Nisbets is building its own catering equipment business empire to rival other giant industry conglomerates such as JLA, especially if it continues its acquisitive strategy.

It remains to be seen whether other companies get added to the fold, but as it stands, Nisbets has a hand in the distributor, manufacturer, wholesaler and supplier markets.

From kitchen design to counter fabrication, companies in the group can altogether offer pretty much everything an operator would need to run a commercial kitchen.
