Ali Group company Edlund has “reinvented” the humble can opener after pizza chain QSRs complained that inferior products from other brands were failing them.
The firm, which has been operating for 95 years and provides restaurants with a range of smallwares and kitchen prep equipment, believes the launch of the ‘#1 Can Opener’ will make a significant difference to QSR operators.
It has been designed to eliminate the need to replace worn blades so frequently as it comes with a fully loaded blade capable of opening 10,000 cans.
Brian Lavelle, sales manager at the UK & Ireland for Culimat, which represents Edlund, said the idea for the product came from talking to pizza chains about their frustrations with products manufactured in the Far East that kept failing.
“The new Edvantage #1 has more features to make can opening requirements easier to manage, with a new four-sided knife, and more comfortable ergonomic knob, plus the new and exclusive Edvancoat technology which more than doubles the wear life of the gear. And with Edlund’s newly designed tool-free disassembly feature, no other manual opener comes close.”
Mr Lavelle said the Edvancoat technology was particularly significant given that can opening gears tend to wear quickly. Edlund claims the feature extends the life of the gear for twice as long as its nearest competitor.
