Dunstable-based Eco Catering Equipment has celebrated its 10th birthday after successfully supplying commercial catering equipment to the hospitality industry since 2006.
The specialist hospitality catering equipment company was founded that year by MD Tim Taylor.
He started out as a one man band, managing all aspects of the business from client relations to business management, but things rapidly changed due to increased demand for services.
10 years later, the company now has six employees with a new team member starting this month and a focus on team expansion in 2017.
Originally a supplier of Hobart dishwashers, Taylor launched Ecomax-Catering.co.uk, a Hobart-specific website, and the company continued to grow with the launch of Foster-Fridge.com which supplies Foster refrigeration equipment.
To this day, Eco Catering Equipment feels it is still one of the leading distributors of Hobart and Foster equipment in the UK.
As the company has continued to develop, a number of brands have partnered with it. Therefore the Eco-Catering-Equipment.co.uk website was launched in 2009 to reflect this.
Taylor commented: “I’m proud of what we have achieved so far, how many customers and manufacturers we have worked with and how many we continue to build relationships with today, some of which have been with us since day one. More importantly however is how grateful I am for the team that have helped Eco Catering get to this milestone.”
He continued: “When I look back the first few months were ridiculous – I’m not quite sure how I got through it. Everything was a leap of faith; I knew how to sell and what to sell and how look after the customer but I had no idea how to run a business. I was so focused on getting it right for the customer I almost forgot everything else that goes into keeping a company going. It was a rather steep learning curve.”
Looking back on what he has experienced, Taylor detailed: “The past 10 years has seen the industry go through a lot: the growth of the internet as a key sales area, a deep recession, a long-winded CMA investigation and now the uncertainty of Brexit. Manufacturers’ product line-ups are always changing and clients’ needs can vary dramatically from one to another. It makes for an ever changing environment and means continuous development for everybody at Eco Catering. You can’t afford to sit still, you’ve got to keep learning and developing continuously.”
The focus at Eco has always been to work with major brands and that is set to continue. Taylor said: “We are and always will be focused on quality, service and after-sales support. The equipment we supply has to be right. Poor equipment disrupts the customers’ business and reflects poorly on us. We work with proven brands and monitor their product and service levels regularly.”
Hobart Independent’s business manager Stuart Bester praised the dealer: “I have built up a strong and lasting relationship with Eco Catering over the last 10 years and have seen the business go from strength to strength, from a one man band to a strong team of dedicated sales and admin staff.
“Tim has always stuck to his plan and supported our products and brands, consistently staying driven on upselling and not getting involved in the price war! He has ensured his business is ethic focused and driven towards customer satisfaction which is why he is one of our most loyal, trustworthy, distributors. I would like to congratulate you on your 10 successful years in business and hope we can continue working together closely in the future.”
The Eco Catering team are planning on a big night out to celebrate, dining at one of their long standing client’s restaurants. The company believes the future looks promising, with an expanding, experienced team and new avenues being explored and developed.
