The E.G.O. Blanc and Fischer-Group has acquired the Defendi Group, a leading Italian manufacturer of gas burners and valves.
E.G.O is well-known as a component supplier among the major producers of commercial catering equipment and this deal will allow it to move further into the professional gas segment and strengthen its position in the household appliance segment.
Defendi will operate as an independent company under its own brand, with existing management staying on under the new ownership.
Dr. Johannes Haupt, chairman of the E.G.O. Blanc and Fischer-Group, said the transaction takes it into a market that had been out of its reach up to now.
“The gas burners are, in a sense, the heart of a gas stove and something that we have previously not been able to offer within the group itself,” he said. “This is now possible and will open up a range of new opportunities for us to develop comprehensive and innovative systems for cooking with gas.”
Together with the gas burners and valves from Defendi, high quality innovative gas systems will now be available to appliance manufacturers.
The Defendi Group employs 270 staff and generated sales of €60m (£51m) last year. As well as its main production site in Ancona, Italy, it operates a second facility in Brazil.
Haupt added: “We want a company that is economically sound and fulfils our very high standards in terms of quality and the ability to innovate. All of this applies to Defendi, which is why the group was our first choice. In addition to this, Defendi is also perfect from a strategic point of view. There are no overlaps in the product ranges and regional sites and our relevant strengths in the international sales regions complement each other excellently.”
The E.G.O. Blanc and Fischer-Group is headquartered in Germany. It made sales of €925m (£782m) last year and employs 7,600 staff. As well as the E.G.O.Group, the organisation owns Blanco and Blanco Professional.
The value of the Defendi deal was not disclosed.
