Catering equipment distributor BF Engineering Services (BFES) has given one of Hampshire’s top catering colleges a helping hand by furnishing its training facility with a brand new combination oven.
The Havant-based outfit teamed up with foodservice equipment brand Olis to provide South Downs College with a combi donated by the manufacturer.
The move follows an enhancement of the training kitchens, which are used by many of the 5,000 full-time students enrolled on catering and hospitality courses at the college.
As well as installing the system, BF Engineering Service will also maintain it going forward, while Olis has promised to send development chefs to the college to share their expertise with students.
Senior lecturer, Iain Baillie, said the aim is for students to start producing their own recipes using the new oven.
“The Olis oven will make a fantastic addition to our training kitchens. This new oven will give the students the opportunity to plan out the different cooking methods and timings required to ensure that they can produce a meal,” he stated.
The college’s catering department was recently accredited as a ‘Centre for Excellence’ by the Hospitality Guild. A restaurant that students run, and which is open to the public, received an AA Rosette following an inspection in June.
BF Engineering Services was founded in 2000 by Eddie Barlow, a qualified mechanical and electrical engineer with many years experience in the commercial and industrial kitchen business.
