A new gourmet burger and chicken restaurant is set to open in Torquay — ironically in the same premises that once housed the showroom of catering equipment distributor Allsop & Pitts.
Local chef Christopher Cload is opening the restaurant, called ‘The Shack’, later this summer after spotting a gap in the market to serve affordable gourmet burgers using locally sourced produce.
The site, in Torquay’s Torwood Street, was originally a showroom operated by Allsop & Pitts, although more recently it was the location of Hooks restaurant.
However, the Herald Express said the premises closed more than three years ago.
The owners of The Shack are now in the process of fitting the venue ready for opening, with Cload telling the paper that the venue will have an atmosphere to suit all ages and an intriguingly designed interior.
Allsopp & Pitts has been trading for almost 70 years. Today the company’s showroom is based at its offices on Torquay’s Barton Road.
It stocks a comprehensive range of sundries, tableware, chefware, refrigeration, cooking and warewashing equipment.
On its website the firm says it works closely with brands such as Rational, Electrolux Professional, Falcon, Winterhalter, Dawson, Blue Seal, Lincat, Hobart and Classeq.
