Dealer warns industry to look out for stolen warewasher

Fife-based Lovat’s Catering is alerting the catering equipment sector to be on the lookout for a dishwasher which was fraudulently bought earlier this year.

The dealer’s online sales executive, Simon Turnbull, received a call from someone who wanted a Hobart H602 pass through dishwasher to be collected directly from the manufacturer.

However, the fraudster then changed the requested delivery to a domestic address, and the name on the order was different to the name on what turned out to be a stolen credit card.

“I usually check prospective customers out thoroughly, but I was very busy that day,” said Turnbull. “Thinking about it, nothing was right with that order – even the email address was different.”

Lovat’s lost around £2,000 due to the fraud, so Turnbull has this advice for other dealers: “Be as careful as possible with internet sales. Don’t accept credit cards – only bank transfers – and be wary of people asking to collect machines from the manufacturer.”

The distributor is asking the industry to keep an eye out for the stolen dishwasher – its serial number is 865712155.
