Somerset-based DC Warewashing and Icemaking Systems has pledged to do its part for the environment by planting up to 10 trees per unit sold this year.
The number of trees planted will depend on the size of the unit, said the company, which has 35 years’ experience in warewashing, glasswashing and icemaking.
DC Warewashing and Icemaking has partnered with a global reforestation platform for the project.
Director Bob Wood commented: “As proud sponsors of the Catering Insight Award for Distributor of the Year – Corporate Social Responsibility, this fantastic award has helped inspire us to further consider ways of minimising DC’s impact on the world.
“We’re always looking at different ways of making our products more sustainable. All our machines are manufactured to reduce energy consumption and water usage, offsetting some of the energy used in their manufacture by planting trees is yet another way we can reduce our company’s impact on the planet.
“We are encouraging companies that sell our products to display the new ‘DC Tree Planted’ logo alongside our product photos on their websites and product literature. This will help environmentally conscious customers to easily choose the best machine that aligns with their ethics.”
As well as increasing carbon absorption, the project aims to improve air quality, provide jobs in deprived areas and create habitats preventing species extinction.
