DC Products has made it a trio of backing the Distributor of the Year – Corporate Social Responsibility category at both the Catering Insight Awards and last year’s digital Kitchen & Equipment Awards event.
The warewasher and icemaker specialist has become the second sponsor for the recently-announced in-person return of the Catering Insight Awards, with the ceremony taking place at London’s 8 Northumberland Avenue on Thursday 18 November.
The Distributor of the Year – Corporate Social Responsibility award will recognise those UK dealers who are outstanding corporate citizens. This could be through their work to be efficient and environmentally aware, or demonstrating excellent health and safety standards, or for those who have thrown their backing behind important charitable initiatives.
DC Products director Bob Wood revealed: “This will be our third year of sponsoring the CSR award and we couldn’t be happier to continue our support.
“CSR is such an important aspect of running a business today and is gaining ever-increasing acknowledgement across our industry and indeed more widely. Whether the focus is improving the bond between an organisation and its employees, supporting local initiatives and charities, or reducing environmental impact, the aim is not simply to ‘green-wash’ a company’s image but to genuinely deliver benefit to greater society. And that’s what this award is about. It’s about recognising those companies that have embraced the CSR concept and are really pushing their own CSR agenda.
“But it’s not just the acknowledgement of the fantastic work of one of our industry’s finest, it’s also there to serve as an aspiration and inspiration to our industry as a whole.”
Asked about the benefits of the Catering Insight Awards returning, Wood responded: “Well, in truth they never really left us. Last year Catering Insight did a fantastic job in recreating the awards in the best way they could under incredibly challenging circumstances. I, for one, was very grateful for the opportunity to have some level of normality and a shared moment when the industry could come together, albeit virtually.
“The fact remains though that the virtual world is just not quite as good as the real thing! So I absolutely cannot wait to see the industry come together under one roof again and have a fantastic evening celebrating who and what is best about our industry.”
Underlining that he is looking forward to seeing “real live” people at the gala night, Wood added: “We have one of the most fantastic and resilient industries out there but there is no doubt we been stretched harder than most over the past 17 months, and it has to be acknowledged that it’s come at a cost for many. As we emerge out of the pandemic it will be so good to see familiar faces at the CI Awards, coming together and letting their hair (or what’s left of it) down for the first time in what seems like a very long time!

Nominations will open next month, with the shortlists announced towards the end of October. Hundreds of senior sector executives will once again choose the winners themselves, with distributors voting on the supplier categories and vice versa.
