The MD of specialist warewashing service company, Crystaltech, took on a 3-day cycling challenge in a bid to raise funds for a hospitality industry charity.
Derek Maher participated in the ‘Team Velo’ 3-day cycle challenge between London to Paris in honour of the Springboard charity.
The cycle challenge kicked off with a rainy 80-mile ride to Portsmouth to catch the overnight ferry to Caen in France and then a further 140 miles through Versailles and past beautiful historic places, before reaching the finish line at the Eiffel tower on day 3.
Maher joined Malcolm Harling on behalf of CESA, and raised and £1,100 for Springboard.
“As a keen cyclist, I’ve taken part in quite few cycle challenges and was delighted that our team came fifth in the challenge, especially as we were the oldest team in terms of our collective age. This was a real team effort and it was great to be able to raise money for such a worthwhile cause by doing something we all love,” said Maher.
Springboard helps young people achieve their potential by guiding unemployed people of any age into work and works to alleviate poverty by supporting those facing barriers within the hospitality industry.
