Crosbys, based in Newcastle, has been chosen as the supplier of light catering equipment for Strathclyde University’s state of the art Technology and Innovation Centre in Glasgow.
The contract, worth £62,000, was awarded following a tender process with The University Caterers Organisation (TUCO) – a professional membership body for in-house caterers operating in the higher and further education sector.
The Technology and Innovation Centre is a national and international centre for research, commercialisation and business development across a range of sectors including energy, health, manufacturing and future cities – and is the first of its kind in Scotland.
The centre, which covers 25,000m2, brings together up to 750 academics, researchers, postgraduate students and project managers, and also offers conferencing and event facilities.
Crosbys coordinated the supply and delivery of equipment across the centre’s six kitchens and three canteens – from microwave ovens and food processors to pots and pans, crockery, cutlery and specialist utensils.
Director Ben Crosby said: “It is widely known that TUCO has a very competitive framework, so we are very pleased to have successfully joined the list of suppliers, and to have won our first major education contract in such an impressive building.
“We’ve established a good relationship with Strathclyde University by delivering our personal, dedicated service throughout the project, and have since been invited to quote for further work, including a chemical contract for universities across the North East and North Yorkshire.”
Crosbys is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and has moved to bigger premises at Brough Park Way to house its growing team. It now supplies crockery, cutlery, specialist catering equipment, paper and janitorial supplies to more than 2,000 customers in the North, including bars, restaurants and hospitals, as well as a series of London restaurants and Michelin establishments across the UK and overseas.
